The present book is designed to follow up the connection between spirituality and numismatics (the study of money and coins as they appeared in 7 – 6 century BC until now); and this is being done for the first time. Such connection exists in a number of directions: from biblical times up to the contemporary Bulgarian jubilee and commemorative mintage (1963 – 2000).
This book is not only aimed at a narrow circle of specialists or collectors but is also recommendable for a broader auditorium of readers. The author, himself, has more to say on the topic and this is to be done in a future sophomore edition.

Avdev S. Monetnata sistema v Srednovekovna Bulgariia prez 13 - 14 vek (The Monetary System of Medieval Bulgaria in the 13th-14th century), Sofija, 2007, in Bulgarian, 268 Abb., paperback, 20 S. summary in English, 240 pages.
The monetary system in medieval Bulgaria of the 13th century arose from the inherited Byzantine monetary system. The metrological and statistical analysis as well as the written evidence make it possible to establish that the Bulgarian silver coinage in the 14th century was realised within the frames of three regional monetary systems. The first system came into being under the influence of the silver coinage of the Golden Horde and was connected with the eastern Bulgarian lands. The second system was based on the existing Byzantine accounting tradition but borrowed the silver grosso from the Venetian monetary system. It won recognition in part of the southern Slavonic lands, including the western Bulgarian regions. The third system represented a specific Dobroudja coinage, related to the Byzantine basilicon of the mid-14th century. The present book is the first compendious research in the area of the monetary system in mediaeval Bulgaria for the period of 13-14 century.
